Don't put up with static, replace your aging stereo deck.

One of the most noticeable problems affecting an aging car is that an old stereo refuses to play tapes or CDs. Don't worry. You don't have to keep driving in silence, because removing an old car stereo is a relatively straightforward task. As long as you have the tools and a new stereo deck to replace the ailing one, you can remove the old one and install the new one yourself. This will save you time and money, and avoid those uncomfortable silences while driving your car.

Remove the faceplate covering the deck stereo. Using your fingers or a flashlight, find the screws that hold the faceplate onto the rest of the car. Unscrew the screws using a Phillips screwdriver. Place the screws in a safe place, as you will need them to put the faceplate on once you've installed a new stereo deck. Remove the faceplate.

Disconnect the stereo wiring from the back of the deck stereo by hand. There should be three wires to disconnect: the speaker, battery and antenna wires. When you are disconnecting the wires make sure not to damage them.
