How to Measure a Room's Square Footage
Several scenarios require you to know your room's square footage. Perhaps you wish to install new carpet or flooring, or maybe you are trying to figure out the required capacity of a new window air-conditioning unit, which is dependent on the area being cooled. Whatever the case, you can easily calculate the square footage with just a tape measure.

Measure the length of the room in feet using your tape measure.

Measure the width of the room in feet.

Multiply the width times the length to calculate square footage. As an example, a room measuring 10 feet by 12 feet would have a square footage of 120 square feet.
