How to Add a Sub to a Bose Stereo

How to Add a Sub to a Bose Stereo thumbnail
Subwoofers can pump up the bass from your Bose stereo system.

Bose manufactures a variety of stereo and home theater systems that typically include a receiver with a built-in CD or DVD player, as well as matched speakers. Basic Bose stereo systems consist of two speakers, while home theater packages may have five to seven speakers for room-filling sound. Adding a subwoofer brings out the bass in music and film soundtracks. Because Bose systems are designed to provide enough power to the matching speakers, use a self-powered subwoofer with a built-in amplifier so it will not draw power from the Bose system.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the power cable for the Bose stereo and the subwoofer from the wall receptacles before connecting the two components.

    • 2

Connect one end of the subwoofer cable to the "Sub Out" port on the back of the Bose receiver.

    • 3

Hook up the other end of the cable to the input on the back of your subwoofer. The jack is typically located near the volume control knob on the rear panel.

    • 4

Plug in the electrical cords for the Bose stereo and the subwoofer.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always shut off the power and unplug the components from the electrical sockets before connecting or disconnecting audio equipment. This prevents a power surge that could rock the room and damage the gear.
