How to Make an Egyptian Treasure Hunt
An Egyptian treasure hunt is an engaging activity for a child's birthday party, especially if the child in question has a deep love of archaeology and ancient Egypt. - Cardboard shoebox
- Masking tape
- Junk jewelry
- Rubber snakes
- Beads
- Paper slips
- Pan
- Tea

Wrap the lid of the cardboard box and the box itself with masking tape. This gives the box a mummified look. If the masking tape looks a little too smooth, you can lightly sand it with sandpaper to give it a time-worn look.

Fill the box with junk jewelry, rubber snakes and large glass beads. This is the prize at the end of the treasure hunt.

Write down three or four clues that lead to the treasure's position. Write the clues on slips of paper. For young children, keep the clues simple, or even draw pictures of where the next clue is hidden.

Soak the paper slips in a pan of tea for two or three hours.

Remove the paper and lay them out to dry. This gives the paper a tan, faded appearance. You may also burn the edges of the paper or tear them a little to give them a ragged look.

Hide the box and the clues leading up to it.

Give the children the first clue and let them follow the clues to the box.

Tips & Warnings
Dress up in a cotton robe or tunic and pretend to be Sphynx. At the end of hunt, ask the children questions about Egyptian trivia before you let them have the box.
