How to Build Wooden Toolbox
If you think that a wooden toolbox is more of an antique than a modern-day functional device, and lacks demand, you'd be wrong. If you perform an Internet search for "wooden toolbox plans," you'll find thousands of plans for simple to complex designs that can fit even the most advanced tools. This wooden toolbox is a simple build, but it should be able to hold everything from your hammer to your pliers. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Satin finish polyurethane
- Wood saw
- Power drill
- Wood glue
- Sandpaper
- One 1/2-inch by 10 1/2-inch doll rod
- One 1-by-6-by-35-inch piece of oak wood
- Eight 1 ¼-inch wood screws
- Six ¼-inch plugs

Use the wood saw to cut caddy pieces out of the oak wood. Cut the bottom so that it is 9.75 inches by 5.25 inches. Cut the two end pieces into triangular shapes so that they measure 5.25 inches along the bottom and 7.25 inches high. Cut the two side pieces so that they are 9.75 inches long and 5.25 inches high.

Drill three .25-inch-deep holes into both of the end pieces. There should be one hole at the bottom of the pieces; the hole should be situated 2.75 inches from the end and two holes 2.75 inches from the bottom at the sides of the pieces. Drill two .25-inch-deep holes into the bottom piece. The holes should be above one another and should be 4.9 inches from the end of the bottom.

Drill a .25-inch-deep hole that has a .5-inch diameter into the top of each interior surface of the end pieces. Sand all of the wood pieces.

Attach all of the pieces together using wood screws, wood glue and plugs. Attach the side pieces to the bottom first using two wood screws and wood glue. Then attach one end piece to the side and bottom pieces using three wood screws and wood glue. Fit the doll rod into the hole at the top of the end piece using glue. Fit the other end piece over the other doll-rod end, glue it in place, and use three screws and wood glue to attach it to the bottom and side pieces. Insert all of the wood plugs.

Apply satin finish polyurethane to the entire surface of the wooden toolbox. Allow the toolbox to dry for a few hours.

Tips & Warnings
To prevent personal injury, always use safety goggle; wood shavings could fly into your eyes, otherwise. Also, when operating a saw, wear a mask to prevent dust harming your lungs.
