Make a fruit tray to supply your wedding guests with a healthy snack that adds color and decoration to your reception. Choose the types of fruits you want to include based on the theme and season of your wedding. For example, use tropical fruits, such as pineapples or kiwis for a Hawaiian-themed wedding. Set the fruit trays around your reception or near the buffet. You can also ask waiters to carry the trays for convenient snacking.
Things You'll Need
- Silk grape leaves
Estimate the amount of fruit you will serve. Plan on each guest taking at least two to four pieces of each kind of fruit if the fruit is part of a buffet or an appetizer. If you're having a cocktail or dessert buffet, plan for for at least four pieces of fruit per guest per hour.
Wash and cut the fruit. Slice the fruit into bite-sized pieces so it's easier for your guests to grab a few pieces and keep on moving. Cut clusters of grapes into smaller stems with just a few grapes on each to avoid a bare-looking grape stem.
Arrange the fruit on the tray according to the type. Each type of fruit should have it's own little area to keep it simple for guests to choose what they want. Start with larger pieces, such as melon slices, then fill in the other areas with smaller fruits, such as berries.
Tuck clean, silk grape leaves around the outer edges of the fruit to ground the bright colors and garnish the fruit tray.
Tips & Warnings
- Piling the fruit onto skewers is another option if you want to make it simple for guests to grab a skewer as they mingle. Line up the skewers on the tray with leaves tucked underneath for decoration.
- Soak apples or other white fruits in pineapple juice or orange juice for a few minutes so the fruit doesn't turn brown and look unappealing.
