Instructions

    • 1

Use a black paper plate, or cut a circular piece of black construction paper to fit the plate. Apply a thin layer of glue to the paper and press it firmly into the paper plate.

    • 2

Draw two medium-size ovals with a pencil on the white construction paper. Cut them out and glue them onto the black plate in the position where the eyes should go.

    • 3

Use a pencil to mark where the eye holes should go within the white ovals. Put the mask up to your face to make sure the eye holes will be lined up with your eyes. Cut out the eye holes.

    • 4

Place the toilet paper roll, which should be free of any lingering toilet paper, on the mask in the location where the mouth should go. Use the pencil to trace a circle on the plate around the toilet paper roll. Remove the roll and apply glue to the traced circle. Attach the toilet paper roll to the freshly glued circle and allow to dry.

    • 5

Trace two large half-moon shapes on the orange construction paper to be used as the top and bottom sections of the beak. These shapes should each have one straight-edge side and one slightly rounded side. Cut out the moon shapes. Apply glue to the top and bottom of the toilet paper roll extending to approximately one inch from where the plate and toilet paper roll intersect.

    • 6

Place one of the orange moon shapes over the glue on the toilet paper roll. Place the second on the underside of the paper roll, so that the straight-edge sides are touching the paper plate and the rounded sides are facing outward. Apply glue to the inner sides of the top and bottom pieces of orange paper and push the sides together so that the mouth will appear to be closed aside from the area where the toilet paper roll is holding it open.

    • 7

Dab a little glue at the very top of the mask and attach three or four black feathers.

    • 8

Apply glue to the back side of the paper plate, extending from the central bottom of the mask to approximately an inch up the middle. Attach the Popsicle stick or craft stick to the glue and allow to dry.

Tips & Warnings

  • A hot glue gun may be the easiest and most stable glue to use for this project, especially when gluing the toilet paper roll onto the mask. However, a liquid glue can also be used.
