The Stata graphical representation tool enables users to quickly create visual representations of information exported from a spreadsheet or database, or typed directly into a text file. Stata includes the ability to display information in a bar chart format that makes information easier to understand and use. Create bar charts in Small Stata using data sets imported from spreadsheets.

      Click the "Start" button on your desktop, click "Programs," then click "Stata." Click "Small Stata" in the menu that appears. The Small Stata application will appear.

      Click the "File" menu, then click "Import" and click "ASCII data created by a spreadsheet." Click the "Browse" button located beside the "ASCII data set filename" field and navigate to the data set file, click on the file and press the "Enter" key. Click the "OK" button.

      Click the "Graphics" menu, click "Histogram," click the "Variable" box in the window that appears and click the variable from the data set you wish to display as a comparison in the bar chart.

      Click the radio button in the "Y Axis" section that best describes the measurement you wish to use to display the data ("Density," "Fraction," "Frequency" or "Percent"). Click the "X Axis" tab and type a title for the "X Axis" into the "Title" field. Click the "Titles" tab and type a title for the bar chart into the "Title" field. Click the "OK" button. A histogram bar chart of the data will display.

      Type "graph bar var1 var2 var3" except replace "var1 var2 var3" with the name of each column in the data set imported and tap the "Enter" key. A bar chart representing the data set will appear.
