How to Turn a Quinceanera Into Winter in Wonderland
A quinceanera is a Latin American tradition and a special day for girls turning 15. The party signifies a teen's transformation from a girl to a woman. Several symbols used throughout the party tell a rich story of a girl's growing up. The birthday girl wears a formal dress, typically pink, along with flat, white shoes and a tiara. During the ceremony, the father removes the flat shoes and replaces them with heels the color of the dress. This is one symbol showing she has grown up. During the party, the girl is given her last doll; she then exchanges her last doll for flowers. A winter-themed quinceanera requires planning, but she will remember it throughout her life. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Calculate your budget. Quineaneras can escalate in price quickly without a budget. Decide how much you can afford to spend before you begin planning. Factor in the dress, invitations and party favors, decorations, band and photographers and flowers.
-
2
Set an arch at the entry to the reception. Use white, light blue and silver balloons or silver and white flowers weaved through the arch. Some online retailers offer custom snowflake arches or ice-castle gates to display at the entry.

3
Make a focal point to the party room. Consider using a sleigh or custom castle background. Guests can take pictures with the guest of honor at the focal point. This can also help set the stage for the winter wonderland theme.
-
4
Hang icicle lights from the ceiling and dim the overhead lights. Icicle lights add a warm, twinkling glow to the reception hall. Fairy lights or white and silver Chinese lanterns also produce a soft glow and make a beautiful statement. Add silver Styrofoam balls to the ceiling decorations; glittery balls hanging with the lights give an added "snowy" feel.
-
5
Add faux trees with white or blue Christmas tree lights throughout the reception hall. The trees give an outdoor feeling while adding winter splendor to the party.
-
6
Set up several standing snowflakes throughout the room. Some online retailers customize standing snowflakes for parties. Place snow blankets --- large pieces of white felt --- in the corners and unused areas around the room.
-
7
Decorate the tables with silver, white and light purple tablecloths. Add snowflake centerpieces and small, white votive candles or winter-themed luminaries. Sprinkle glitter on the tablecloth and add small, individually wrapped treats.
-
8
Place a party favor or treat bag at each table setting. Put the cake on its own display table. Use soft pastel-colored ribbon to decorate the cake table.
-
9
Finish the room by adding a personalized quinceanera banner for the guest of honor.
