How to Connect a Roland Dual Trigger Cymbal to an Alesis SR 16

It is possible to hook up a Roland dual cymbal drum trigger to an Alesis SR-16 drum machine with a Trigger to MIDI I/O interface. The interface converts the signal coming from the cymbal drum trigger into MIDI messages that can be sent to the SR-16 to activate the sounds within the drum machine. You will have to know the correct method of hooking up these three components in order to trigger sounds from the SR-16 with the cymbal. This tutorial will show you the correct method for making the connections between the cymbal, trigger to MIDI interface and the Alesis SR-16.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug the Roland dual cymbal triggers into the trigger inputs labeled "1" and "2" on the back of the Alesis Trigger to MIDI I/O interface. There are eight inputs for connecting other drum triggers as well.

    • 2

Connect one end of the MIDI cable into the "MIDI Out" jack on the back of the Alesis drum trigger to MIDI I/O interface and the other end of the cable into the Alesis SR-16's "MIDI In" port. This will establish the MIDI connection between the two devices.

    • 3

Power on both the interface and the SR-16 and begin hitting the cymbal trigger with the drum stick. The signal will now be transmitted from the cymbal, through the interface, and to the drum machine.
