Homemade Portable Disc Golf Baskets

Homemade Portable Disc Golf Baskets thumbnail
Aim at your homemade basket for practice and fun

Disc golf, sometimes called Frisbee Golf or Frolf, is a fun, inexpensive sport that allows people to get outside and be with their friends and family on the course. However, for some people, the days at the course are not enough. Practice makes perfect, and with a portable homemade basket, you can practice your disc golf game on the days when you are not able to get to the course. You can set up the basket in your backyard or bring it to your favorite park.

Instructions

    • 1

Fit the straight umbrella handle 4 or 5 inches into the PVC pipe, making sure it can fit snugly. Remove the umbrella again and whittle if necessary.

    • 2

Open the umbrella vertically and measure across opposite stays for a diameter of two feet.

    • 3

Cut the stays and material all the way around, using the hack saw or wire cutters. Save the material that you cut off.

    • 4

Use the pliers to bend the end of each stay into a loop.

    • 5

Tie the clothesline in equal lengths between each loop.

    • 6

Cut eight 26-inch lengths of plastic chain and attach one to each of the loops at the end of the stays with the cable ties.

    • 7

Use a cable tie to attach the umbrella shaft to the bottom link of each chain length that is connected to the loops at the ends of the stays.

    • 8

Make a hole in the center of the plant pot saucer that is wide enough to accommodate the umbrella handle.

    • 9

Attach the 1-inch piece of PVC joint to the hole at the bottom of the saucer and secure it with 4 to 6 screws. Make sure it can withstand some force, as in the force of a disc hitting it.

    • 10

Drill 8 holes through the sides of the plant pot saucer and down at an angle through the bottom of the saucer.

    • 11

Push the umbrella stays from the leftover umbrella material through the holes you just drilled so that the umbrella material extends up the sides of the saucer and expands the basket portion of the target.

    • 12

Drill screws through the tent stake to attach it to the bottom of the PVC pipe, leaving a half-foot of stake extending below the pipe to insert into the ground.

    • 13

Assemble the pieces you built, with the PVC joint attached to the basket going on top of the vertical PVC pipe and the umbrella through the hole in the middle of the basket.

    • 14

Push the stake into the ground until the PVC pipe is touching the ground and open the umbrella.

Tips & Warnings

  • Attach more than one stake to the PVC pipe for extra stability.
