How to Sell Board Games

How to Sell Board Games thumbnail
Many classic board games, such as Candy Land, are still popular today.

Turning a profit from selling board games can be challenging because of fierce competition in the marketplace, the spread out target points of the game demographics as well as the peaks and valleys of the selling calendar. However, there are steps for selling homemade board games that can increase your odds for success.

Instructions

    • 1

Research the board game market by browsing at stores and online at what is currently on the market. Your findings will keep you from launching a board game that is already available in the market and help you establish a demographic to pitch your game to.

    • 2

Write letters to large corporate retailers of board games, such as Walmart or Toys 'R Us. Provide them with a description of your board game. Include in the description an outline of how the game is played, who the game is targeted at and what makes your game stand out from other games on the market.

    • 3

Calculate your production, packaging and labor costs if you intend to sell the game yourself. Estimate the amount of time, labor and materials necessary for making the game board and pieces as well as the final packaging, and then establish a fair but profitable price for the game.

    • 4

Pitch your board games to local small toy and game retailers through letters and in-store demonstrations of the game.

    • 5

Create a website to sell your games on. Promote the website with local advertising such as ads in the newspaper and fliers around town.

    • 6

Advertise your games on free social networking sites. Post descriptions of your game on your social network home page, or create a group or company page for your product. Publish extra posts around the holiday shopping season to try and spark interest among friends and colleagues looking for a unique gift.
