How to Create Your Own Wedding Stationery

How to Create Your Own Wedding Stationerythumbnail
Creating your own wedding stationery can help make the day unique and special.

While you can buy wedding stationery, sometimes brides and grooms want to use their own unique design. This approach can be cheaper than buying ready-made wedding invitations and thank-you cards and allows the happy couple to have more creative freedom in planning their big day. Even elaborate, detailed wedding stationery can be made at home with just a little time, effort and creativity.

      • 1

Decide what colors you wish to use.

      • 2

Buy high-quality card stock from your local crafts or stationery store. A heavy card stock in white or cream is a good base.

      • 3

Buy envelopes, preferably in a coordinating color. Make sure that your stationery will fit in the envelopes.

      • 4

Choose a font, either online or from a word-processing program.

      • 5

Print a test copy on the card stock to check for size and clarity. Make changes and reprint if necessary.

      • 6

Use a paper cutter to trim your paper to an appropriate size. Take note of the measurements so that all the sheets will be the same size.

      • 7

Glue the printed sheet onto a color-coordinated piece of card stock cut slightly larger than your cut piece to create a border.

      • 8

Add a decorative ribbon. Punch two holes at the top of the stationery; thread a ribbon through the holes and tie into a bow.

      • 9

Add other decorations, such as small, self-adhesive rhinestones, stickers, or puff paint designs, as desired. Look at wedding sites for inspiration.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Crafts stores often sell scissors that cut decorative edges.

    • If you want lacy or detailed die-cut stationery, look for precut card stock at a crafts store. You can then add your own personal touch.
