It's easy enough to get a bit of frosting on your clothes while enjoying a delicious piece of cake, but removing that spot probably won't be as easy or as enjoyable. Frosting is made with butter, which makes it a grease stain, and if the frosting is tinted, it's also a dye stain due to the food coloring it contains. This double whammy can permanently stain your clothing so try to treat the spot as soon as you notice it.

Things You'll Need

  • Dull knife
  • Heavy duty laundry detergent
  • 1 cup of all fabric bleach
  • 1 gallon of water
  • Plastic container

Scrape the frosting away from the clothing gently with a dull knife.

Pour heavy duty laundry detergent directly on the stain and gently rub it into the fabric. Let the detergent soak into the fibers for one minute.

Wash the clothing immediately following the care directions on the garment's tag.

Remove the clothing from the washer as soon as the cycle is complete. If the stain is gone, dry the clothing as you would normally. If the stain persists, continue to the next step.

Add one cup of all fabric bleach to one gallon of water in a plastic container or a stoppered sink. You can use chlorine bleach in place of the all fabric bleach if the clothing is white.

Soak the stained clothing for 15 minutes in the bleach solution.

Wash the clothing again to remove the bleach. If the stain persists, it probably cannot be removed without damaging the garment.
