Raisins are made from grapes that are dried.

The process of making raisins is simple. Grapes are dried out in the sun. Science projects on making raisins may require camera documentation of the fruits' daily progress and a journal and pen to write down thoughts, hypotheses and information about the project.

Instructions

    • 1

Select any preferred grapes. Raisins are always made from grapes. Different types of raisins are made from various types of grapes. For example, golden raisins are made from green grapes.

    • 2

Rinse off the grape to remove any dirt or chemicals. Remove any stems attached to the grapes and place the grapes on a tray or similar item where they are not touching.

    • 3

Put the tray in a sunny location. Cover the grapes with a very thin cloth that the sunlight can penetrate. A cheese cloth or sheer material cloth is ideal. The cloth is designed to keep the bugs and pests from eating the grapes.

    • 4

Take pictures of the process. On the first day, take pictures of washing the grapes and the tray. Write down a hypothesis for the amount of time it takes for the raisins to form. Photograph the grapes every day.

    • 5

Write out the daily progress of the raisins. Daily progress will differ based on weather conditions. Hot summer weather is best for making raisins because there is strong sunlight. If there are complications, such as insects getting into the grapes or other pests, write about the complications.

    • 6

Form a conclusion after the raisins are complete. The conclusion will either confirm the hypothesis or explain how the hypothesis was wrong.
