How to Make a Beaded Collar Necklace
Combine two crafts into one eye-catching choker or collar necklace. You can crochet using soft beading wire, as long as you use a crochet hook strong enough to maneuver the wire and beads. Don't worry about getting the same amount of space in between the beads as you work -- the charm of the necklace is that you can individualize its look. To make this necklace, you need to be comfortable with crocheting slip knots and chain stitches. You should also be advanced enough to work with a crochet hook and beads at the same time.

1
String 29 beads, pearls and stones onto the beading wire in the order you choose. Using your crochet hook, make a slip knot and leave a 3-inch tail.
-
2
Pull up a bead (stone or pearl) close to your hook, yarn over with the wire and draw the wire through the loop on your hook. You have one beaded chain made.

Repeat from "pull up a bead (stone or pearl) close to your hook" 28 more times; chain one, with 29 beaded chains made. Fasten off and clip the beading wire, leaving a 3-inch tail. Pull the tail to tighten it around the final bead.

Slip one tail of the beaded chain onto the length of silver curb chain. Thread the end of the beaded chain and "sew" it in place on the curb chain, using a tapestry needle. Slip the last bead, then the bead cap onto the head pin. Using the round-nose pliers, form a loop at the top of the head pin. Thread the loop of the head pin on the free end of the curb chain. With the pliers, close the loop. Sew the lobster clasp to the other end of the crocheted necklace with a large tapestry needle.

Tips & Warnings
Feel free to use any kind of bead you prefer -- you aren't tied to using only crystals. Use pearls or semiprecious stones.
As you are crocheting the necklace, stop frequently to fit it to your neck to ensure it fits more like a collar necklace or choker.
