How to Cut a Hole in a Bass Drum
Many bass drum heads do not come pre-cut with a port hole. Because of this, it is often necessary to cut your own hole in a bass drum head. Cutting a hole in a bass drum head is often done to emphasize the attack of the bass drum beater. It is also very useful when placing a microphone on the kick drum. The hole allows the microphone to be placed just inside of the bass drum, capturing a punchy sound with an enhanced attack.
