How to Build a Campfire Pot Holder
Without the right equipment, cooking over a campfire can often result in singed hair and dry, cracked hands. A tripod, three-legged potholder can provide a simple method for campfire cooking by reducing discomfort and replacing that bulky, soot-stained grill stand. Build this basic design from supplies found at your local hardware store.
Things You'll Need
- 3 electrical conduit tubes, 4 feet long, 1/2 inch diameter
- 3 eye lag bolts, 1/4 inch by 3 inches
- Swing set chain, 3/16 inch, 2 feet long
- 2 S-hooks, light-duty
- 2 sets of pliers
- Hammer

Bend open an eyebolt by gripping it with two sets of pliers, leveraging the loop open 1/4 inch. Hook the end of the chain and the two remaining eyebolts inside the open loop, and hammer it closed.

Attach an S-hook to the free end of the chain and hammer the hook closed. Attach another S-hook to the chain in a similar manner two inches from the eyebolt end.

Insert a bolt into each conduit tube and spread out the conduit to form the legs of a tripod.

Tips & Warnings
Use the top S-hook to adjust the length of the chain by taking up the excess and hooking it in place.
Add a third S-hook at the top of the tripod to hold a stirring spoon or cooking tool.
For added portability, cut the conduit legs in half and join these leg segments together with 1/2-inch conduit set screw fittings for easy setup, breakdown and storage.
