How to Donate Your Car in Metro Atlanta
If you have a car in the Atlanta, Georgia, metro area that you do not want to keep or sell on your own, you can donate it to charity. Within Metro Atlanta are both national and local charitable organizations that accept vehicle donations. When you make your vehicle donation, you can claim that donation on your taxes, which lowers your tax liability. This is similar to donating household goods and claiming the donation on your taxes.

Contact the charity you have selected for your donation by phone or on their website to let them know that you want to make a vehicle donation. Give the year, make and model of the vehicle, as well as its condition. Some, but not all, charities accept junk cars or non-running cars.

Clean out your vehicle and take it to the donation drop-off center. Some charities, such as the Salvation Army, prefer to pick up vehicle donations. If you are donating to a place that offers pickup service, just set up a date and time for the vehicle to be picked up.

4
Remove the license plate from the vehicle and hand over the car keys and the vehicle title. Before handing over the title, sign the back of it to transfer the ownership to the charity.
-
5
Take your donation receipt, which will just be a temporary receipt. The charity has 30 days to auction off the vehicle. Once it does, you will get an updated receipt by mail with the selling price of the vehicle. This price is the amount that you can claim on your taxes.
