How to Become a Troop Leader

Girl Scouts of The United States of America, like most organizations, always need good volunteers. Becoming a troop leader will provide you with the opportunity to enhance the lives of numerous young girls as well as enrich your own life.       Fill out a volunteer application online by navigating to your local Girl Scout council website and click on the "volunteer application online" link. Follow the prompts and complete each section accurately. Submit the application and check your email for confirmation. A background check will be done after you've completed to volunteer application to evaluate your criminal background and check your references.

      Complete the registration to become a member and a troop leader on the Girl Scout website. As of 2010 the price to become a member was $12 for a year or $300 for a lifetime. Membership is required before you can become a troop leader.

      Contact the Girl Scouts council in your area to express your interest in becoming a troop leader and to get information on forming a troop. Contact information for local councils is listed on the Girl Scout website.
