How to Print on NCR Paper

How to Print on NCR Paper thumbnail
Writing on the top page of NCR paper allows a copy to be created on lower pages.

Print on NCR paper to create multi-part forms and contracts that allow information written in on the top sheet to copy onto the other sheets. Printing on NCR paper is intimidating and slightly confusing at first until the process has been performed a couple of times. Follow this step by step guideline to print multi-part forms and contracts onto NCR paper and bind the pages together in the right order.

Things You'll Need

  • Fanapart padding adhesive
  • Paint brush

Instructions

    • 1

Create a document and print it on plain white paper as a proof. Ensure enough top margin to allow for the binding of the NCR paper, which is typically about 1/8 inch.

    • 2

Remove one set of forms from the box of NCR paper, noting which direction it came out of the box. Set the forms onto a hard surface and press down on the corner of the top form with a fingernail or coin to create a tiny, invisible line on the top page. Check the lower pages to see if the line formed clearly on them, indicating the proper orientation of the final printed forms. Make a note of the color sequence of the pages to ensure that they will be printed and bound in the correct order.

    • 3

Place the form with the test line into the printer so that the printing will appear on the front face of all pages and print the document onto each page.

    • 4

Remove the pages from the printer and align them together. Set the forms onto a hard surface and press down on the corner of the top form with a fingernail or coin to create a tiny, invisible line on the top page.

    • 5

Check the lower pages to see if the line formed clearly on them, indicating the proper orientation of the final printed forms. Make a note of the sequence and orientation of the forms as they are placed into the printer and use this information to load paper into the printer.

    • 6

Load the blank forms into the printer and print the document, setting the page count for the number of completed forms needed multiplied by the number of pages in each set. For instance, if 125 sets of four part forms are needed, print 500 copies total.

    • 7

Stack the finished printed sets up and "jog" them by gently tapping the edge of the stack onto a hard surface such as a table top until the page edges are perfectly aligned. Place the jogged stack onto a hard surface and place two or three reams of paper (still in packaging) on top of the forms to keep pressure on them while applying the padding adhesive.

    • 8

Dip a 2-inch wide paint brush about a half inch into the Fanapart Padding Adhesive and brush the adhesive along the top edge of the stack of forms, brushing along with the grain of the paper in long strokes. Apply enough adhesive to wet the edge but not so much as to soak the paper. Make sure to get all of the edges and corners and completely wet the entire stack, including the top and bottom forms in the stack.

    • 9

Allow 30 minutes for the adhesive to cure and then remove the reams of paper that are being used as weight. Take a stack of forms in one hand, holding the edge opposite of the adhesive, and gently rub the thumb of the other hand along the edge with the adhesive to break apart the separate sets.

Tips & Warnings

  • Ensure the pages are jogged together so that the binding edge is aligned perfectly along the entire stack of forms that is to be bound.

  • Do not use too much pressure as this will prevent the padding adhesive from penetrating the paper. Align the forms in the proper sequence or the entire job may be ruined.
