How to Make a Wooden Ribbon Holder
You can use ribbon for a number of different projects around your home -- from decorating your Christmas tree, to decorating gift packages, to using it as a hair accessory. Unfortunately, ribbon can also easily unravel, tangle and make a mess. To keep all your ribbon in one place -- and most importantly, organized -- make a wooden ribbon holder. With ribbon handles on both sides of the holder, you can hang the ribbon organizer anywhere you'd like.
Things You'll Need
- 1/4-inch wooden dowels,16 inches long
- Measuring tape
- Pencil
- Drill bit size #36
- Drill
- 2 grosgrain ribbons, 25 inches long
- Spools of ribbon
Instructions
-
-
1
Lay your 1/4-inch wooden dowel onto a flat surface.
-
2
Measure 1 inch from each end with your measuring tape; place a pencil mark at the 1-inch marks.
-
-
3
Insert a #36 size drill bit onto your hand drill. Drill a hole through the dowel at each pencil mark. Using a larger drill bit will not properly hold the ribbon handles, and can snap the dowels as well.
-
4
Fold both ribbons in half. Tie the folded end of each ribbon into a knot. Slip the unknotted end of one of the ribbons through one of the holes.
-
5
Slide all of your spools onto the dowels.
-
6
Slip the unknotted end of the second ribbon through the other hole. Tie the ends of each of the ribbons into a bow.
-
7
Hang the ribbon holder wherever you typically keep your ribbons.

Tips & Warnings
You can use a drill bit smaller than #36, but do not use a bit smaller than #52. Bits smaller that #52 (1/16-inch) will make it difficult to pull the ribbon through the holes.
