How to Make a Fold Out Birthday Card
It is always a nice idea to top a present with a meaningful handwritten card. You can add an even more personal touch by making the card yourself. Show off your creativity and style with a handmade card that has a pop-out center. It's surprisingly easy to do, but the gift recipient won't know that. Once you master the form, you can add all sorts of creative embellishments to really personalize the cards you make.
Things You'll Need
- 2 pieces cardstock in the colors of your choice
- Scissors
- Picture where the image has a clear bottom and top that meet in the middle (i.e. picture of a yard that is half grass and half sky)
- Pictures to pop out (i.e. birds and flowers)
- Glue stick
Instructions
-
-
1
Cut out the pop-out images so that they are ready to be glued onto the card.
-
2
Glue the background image onto the cardstock that you choose for the inside of the card. The image should fill the whole page.
-
-
3
Fold the cardstock in half vertically by bringing the top down to the bottom and making a crease.
-
4
Fold the other pieces of cardstock in half the same way.
-
5
Make two cuts on the inside piece of cardstock running vertically. The cuts should start just under the fold and end just above it and they should be parallel to each other, about a half an inch apart. This will create the base for your pop-out image. The more you want your image to pop out, the longer you should made the cuts.
-
6
Repeat the cuts for as many pop-out images as you have.
-
7
Glue the pop-out images onto their bases.
-
8
Glue the pieces of cardstock to each other, making sure not to glue down the pop-up bases.
-
9
Decorate the front of your card.
