Instructions

    • 1

Create an outline of the content that you want to display on the time line. For chapter books, using the individual chapters for points of interest is a good rule of thumb. If there are no chapters, you need to decide what the major events are in the book. You want to keep in mind to provide enough content in your time line for the audience to understand the main points. They do not need to know everything that happened in the book.

    • 2

Use a ruler to draw a line that runs the full length of the banner paper about 2 inches from the bottom. Look at your outline of points and divide the line into equal sections according to the number of points you will make. At each point, draw a 45 degree angle line to midway on the paper. On each of these lines, write in pencil the points that you decided upon in your outline.

Draw or cut out an illustration for each point on the time line. This will provide your audience with a visual image of what is happening in the story at that point. Illustrations should be vibrant depictions of the story's plot in order to gain the audiences attention.

Add a more professional, finished look to your project by going over all written material with a fine black marker. When the marker is dry, use an eraser and lightly go over the pencil marks.
