How to Use a Minolta Lens on a Sony Alpha
Alpha is the trim name of a long line of digital SLRs from Sony. Minolta is a camera equipment manufacturer that produces various types of photographic equipment including DSLR lenses. All Sony Alpha cameras have an A-mount, making them compatible with the scores of A-mount lenses on the market. Minolta produces its own line of A-mount lenses, all of which are compatible with Sony Alpha cameras. Using a Minolta lens with a Sony Alpha camera body is simple and can be learned in a few short steps.

1
Purchase an A-mount lens from Minolta. All Minolta A-mount lenses are compatible with Sony Alpha cameras. Minolta products that are A-mount compatible include fixed focal length lenses, macro lenses, zoom lenses, and teleconverters to extend lens coverage.
-
2
Line up the A-mount Minolta lens so that the red dot on the lens is lined up with the red dot on the camera mount. Turn the lens clockwise until you hear a clicking noise that indicates the lens is securely mounted.
-
-
3
Set the lens to either "AF" (auto focus) or "MF" (manual focus) with the switch on the lens.
-
4
Compose your picture by looking through the viewfinder and finding a pleasing vantage point. Adjust the focusing ring if you are in MF mode until your photographic subject is the sharpest part of the frame. Press the shutter release down halfway if you are using AF mode to lock focus on your subject.
-
5
Press the shutter release all the way down to take a picture.
-
6
Turn the Sony Alpha camera body off every time you take off a lens. Press the release button while simultaneously turning the lens counterclockwise until the lens releases. Cover the lens mount on the camera body with your hand to keep dust from entering while you find another lens to mount on the camera or a camera mount cover.
