How to Repair the Brakes on a 1994 Chevy Lumina
The 1994 Chevy Lumina is a series of cars using the same frame by the Chevrolet division of General Motors Corporation. The Lumina comes in three styles; a sedan, a coupe and a minivan. All three styles uses disc brakes on the front wheels to stop the car. Over time the disc brake will start to squeak as the brake pads wear out. Changing the brake pads will fix the squeaking and make the brakes work properly again.

Accessing the Brakes

Park the Lumina on a hard and level surface.

Loosen the lug nuts on both front tires of the Lumina using the tire iron.

Roll the floor jack under the front of the Lumina then lift the car by the frame.

Place a jack stand under the A-frame at each wheel well then lower the Lumina onto the jack stands.

Remove the lug nuts then both front tires.
Repairing the Brakes

Use the ratchet and socket to remove the bolts on the back of the brake assembly.

Wiggle the brake assembly back and forth to get it off of the brake rotor.

Pull the brake pads towards the center of the C shape brake assembly and out of the brake pad tracks.

Insert the new brake pads into the brake pads tracks then press them firmly in place using your thumbs.

Set the brake assembly over the brake rotor then screw in and tighten the assembly bolts using the ratchet and sockets.
Completing the Repair

Replace the brake pads on the other side of the Lumina.

Put the tires on the hubs then screw on the lug nut evenly to seat the tires.

Lift the Lumina off the jack stands with the floor jack then remove the jack stands and lower the Lumina to the ground.

Tighten the lug nuts on both of the front tires of the Lumina using the tire iron.

Tips & Warnings
For Lumina's with four-wheel disc brakes, the rear disc brakes are repaired in the same manner as the front wheels.
