How to Make a Creme Brulee Soy Candle
Soy wax is made from the natural ingredients soybeans and botanical oils. This material burns cleaner than paraffin wax making it environmentally friendly. While you can purchase soy candles in many stores, making your own is easy and allows you to put your individual stamp on them. Adding a fragrance to a candle is simple, even a sugary sumptuous dessert fragrance such as crème brulee.
Things You'll Need
- 1 lb. of soy wax flakes
- 1 oz. of crème brulee fragrance oil
- Wax dye (optional)
- 16-oz. Mason jar or container
- 1 wick (HTP 105 works well)
- Super glue
- Spoon

1
A glass Mason jar works well for a container for a soy candle. Wash the container and dry completely. A 16-oz. glass Mason jar works well, or you can use a metal pail that can hold 16 oz. of wax.

2
Use the super glue to attach the round metal end of the wick to the bottom of the container. The HTP 105 wick works well with soy candles as it is prepared for high-temperature burning in a flat braided cotton wick with interwoven fibers that adds to the stiffness of the wick. This wick measures 7 inches in length and has a 20mm round metal piece for simple placement in the container.

3
Melt the soy wax flakes in a pan over low to medium heat, stirring frequently with a spoon until the wax is completely melted. Remove from heat.
-
4
Add the crème brulee fragrance oil to the melted wax and mix well with the spoon. The fragrance oil can be found in craft stores with candle making supplies or online.
-
5
Add the wax dye to the melted wax and mix well with the spoon. Brown or light tan is a realistic color choice for a crème brulee candle.
-
6
Pour the hot wax into the prepared container holding the wick upright in the center of the container with one hand. After the wax is poured wrap the top of the wick around a pencil and place across the width of the container to hold the wick in place.
-
7
Trim the wick just 1/2 inch above the cooled wax. Trim the top of the wick to ½ inch above the wax. The candle is ready to burn.
