How to Calculate How Much Laminate Flooring I Need

Installing a laminate floor is relatively simple.

Laminate offers a variety of benefits as a flooring material. It is very resilient and resistant to wear and tear. According to Ask the Builder, new developments in materials and manufacturing have resulted in products that can closely imitate the appearance of wood and resist cigarette burns and indelible marker stains. Additionally, laminate is easy to install and can usually be installed over the existing floor. Avoid using laminate in rooms with a lot of moisture, such as bathrooms, since it is prone to buckling and swelling.

• Pencil and paper

Instructions

1. Measure the length of the room you are covering with laminate. Let's say the length is 20 feet.

2. Measure the width of the room. Let's say the width is 15 feet.

3. Multiply the length and width together. In this case, the result is 300. This is the square footage of your room.

4. Find 10 percent of the square footage. In this case, we would multiply 300 by .10, or 10 percent. The result is 30.

5. Add the 10 percent figure to the total square footage. This allows for extra material, just in case something goes wrong. In our case, the result would be 330. This is the square footage of laminate flooring you will need.
