How to Keep Canned Cat Food in Automatic Feeders

Canned cat food can be used with an automatic cat feeder. The feeder must be designed for moist food. One automatic feeder that can be used with canned cat food is the Ergo 8-Day Feeder and another is the CatMate Feeder. To use canned cat food in one of these feeders, it will need to be kept cool with ice packs.

Find the compartment for the ice packs on the automatic feeder. Open the covers and take out the ice packs, if applicable.

Place the ice packs in the freezer for at least 6 hours, to allow them to freeze.

Take the ice packs out of the freezer and insert them into the compartment on the automatic feeder.

Open one of the lids for the food compartment. Add the manufacturer's recommended amount of canned cat food. This is typically up to 12 ounces or 1 lb. in each compartment, depending on the type of automatic feeder.

Set the timer on the automatic feeder to the feeding times you want.

Tips & Warnings

  • The compartment for the ice pack is under the feeder dish on the Ergo 8-Day Feeder.
  • Canned cat food will spoil after two to three days, even if kept cool.
