How to Clean a Pressure Cooker

Pressure cookers require maintenance and must be cleaned on a regular basis. They have many different parts that all require regular cleaning. Never place a pressure cooker in the dishwasher, use abrasive detergents or cleaning agents, or allow it to soak in the sink. If you have stubborn stains on your pressure cooker, use a non-abrasive cleaners like Bon Ami. You can also polish your cleaned pressure cooker with a silver polishing agent.   • Dishwashing soap
  • Rag and/or non-metal pad
  • Non-abrasive cleanser
  • Pipe cleaner

Instructions

      Fill the sink with hot water and dish soap.

      Remove the lid of the pressure cooker from the pot. Remove the gasket from the lid, unscrew the pressure regulator from the valve stem and remove any other removable parts.

      Wash both the lid and the pot of the pressure cooker in the water with a dish rag or non-metal pad.

      Wash other parts including the regulator, gasket and rubber seal on the lid carefully. Be sure to wash away any bits of food from the sealing surface of the lid and valve stem area.

      Insert a pipe cleaner into the vent pipe that the regulator is screwed into. Push the pipe cleaner in and out of the vent pipe until it's clean.

      Dry all parts with a towel. Store the pressure cooker with the lid placed upside down on top of the pot.
