How to Render Honors During the National Anthem
Respect is essential when rendering honors during the U.S. National Anthem. There should not be any talking or unnecessary movements while the anthem is playing. Absolute etiquette during the National Anthem also demands no singing or even mouthing the lyrics.

Indoors or outside, face the flag. Upon announcement that the National Anthem is to be played, stand. It is not necessary to stand if you are unable to do so. If you are walking and hear the beginning of the anthem, stop.

Everyone, including sports team players, should remove their hats. Remove your hat or any headgear with the right hand.

Sports events in the United States begin with the National Anthem. Place the right hand over the heart. Stand straight and face the flag or music. If you are unable to stand, face the flag or music and place your right hand over the heart.

People who are unable are not required to stand through the anthem. Remain standing with your hand over your heart until completion of the anthem. Keep your hand over your heart until the anthem is completed.

After the anthem, enjoy the game. Once the anthem is complete, quietly return to your seat.
