You can restore a laptop's operating sytsem with recovery discs.

All Windows computer systems give you the option of creating recovery discs. These discs allow you to reboot and restore the operating system, should something occur that renders it inoperable. Typically, these recovery discs have multiple discs, including most Gateway laptop computers. If the Gateway laptop froze during the last recovery disc copy, correct the problem and restart the recovery process.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the Gateway laptop computer to a power source. With no battery monitor running on the screen, there is no way of knowing how much power is left in the battery.

    • 2

Turn off the Gateway laptop computer and leave it off for a few minutes. This gives it time to cool down and reset.

    • 3

Clean off the bottom of the last recovery disc with a clean, damp cloth. If the disc is dirty, the Gateway laptop computer is going to run into trouble running and reading the disc.

    • 4

Restart the computer and insert the first recovery disc. The computer will run all the boot information from the recovery disc. Eject the recovery disc when prompted and insert the last recovery disc into the Gateway laptop. Allow the laptop to run the remaining data from the last recovery disk. Once finished, the computer will restart and run correctly.
