How to Trim a Maine Coon Cat's Hair
Most of the time, cats can groom themselves adequately. On rare occasions, however, the cat will need a hand, especially if it has long hair. Maine Coons have very thick, long coats that can become tangled and matted if the cat gets into something it shouldn't. Their coats, meant to withstand cold temperatures, are longer on the stomach and hindquarters than on their backs. Once their fur becomes matted, help solve the problem is by trimming it.

Clip at the top of the matted area with scissors, if possible. If this does not resolve the problem, you will need the clippers.

Shave the matted area gently with the clippers. This will remove the tangled hairs.
