How to Test Your Skills for Future Careers
Career aptitude tests were once a staple experience of American high schools, but have faded in popularity. Though knowing what may be a good career path can help students determine their college major, these tests are not as widely used as they once were. A career aptitude test evaluates your skills and personality traits to help you decide on an industry or job that best fits your personal attributes. Some career management companies offer in-depth evaluation but there are free tests that can be found online to give you a general idea of what type of career is best for you.

Go to funeducation.com listed in the references section. This is an education and career site that offers free tests and quizzes to help you determine the correct career path for you. Click on the fun tests and quizzes tab at the top of the website's tool bar.
-
2
Scroll down the page to the career tests box and choose the free career test. It should be the first option. There are 485 questions to this test, so please allow ample time to complete it. You can save your answers and come back if you only have the time to complete the test in small sections.

Answer the questions as they pertain to you and be honest. Answering how you think you should and not how you feel will give inaccurate results. Take the time to read each question and think before providing your answer. These questions will be statements of fact about you, and you must choose whether you agree with them or not.

4
When you finish the test choose the "get results" button at the bottom. You will be required to register in order to get the free report. After registering, you should be automatically logged in. Click on "My Results" from the tool bar.
-
5
Choose "view results" next to the free career test and then choose "Continue to Free Report." Click through the special options and promotions and make the choice whether you want to do them or not. You cannot skip this part but you can decline all the offers. Do this by scrolling to the bottom of each ad and choosing "skip offer."
-
6
Look over your career personality report and make note of how you scored. Sometimes these results can be affected by your mood that day, so take them lightly and scroll all the way to the bottom of the page.
-
7
Choose "View your 305 Job Extended CAPP report." Your top three ideal careers for which your skills and personality traits are suited will be listed in the first grey box. Click on these careers to learn more about what they entail and schools that offer degree programs in those careers.

Tips & Warnings
Ask a school guidance counselor or advisor about career aptitude testing and see if your school offers in for free or for a fee. Consider taking additional tests to compare the results.
If you do not like the results, you do not have to choose that career. Results can be affected by many things such as your mood or your attention span. Wait a few days and try the test again to see if you achieve different results.
