How to Make Bridal Satin Roses

Ribbon roses make beautiful decorations and are an elegant choice for wedding decorations. White satin roses embellish bridal gowns, gloves, shoes and veils. Larger flowers will make beautiful bouquets to hang on the sides of church pews. Small satin roses will add a special touch to the bottom of a wedding cake. The width of the satin ribbon will determine the completed size of the flower. Ribbon roses can also decorate pillows and baby headbands.

Things You'll Need

  • 1/2 yard non-wired satin ribbon
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • 1 1/2 yards wired satin ribbon
  • Pencil
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Pearls
  • Glitter

Make a Non-Wired Satin Ribbon Flower

  • Cut a 24-inch length of satin ribbon with scissors. Put the two ends of the ribbon together to determine where the ribbon length center is. Hold it in the center and fold one side of the ribbon over the other to create a 90-degree angle between two sides to form a square. Satin ribbon is slippery--make sure to hold it with both hands.

  • Fold the bottom section of the ribbon over the top section, keeping the sections at a 90-degree angle. Repeat this step until you reach the end of the ribbon.

  • Pull one end of the ribbon gently. Hold the square in one hand to prevent it from unfolding. The ribbon will fold into a rose. Trim the long end of the ribbon with scissors, leaving about two inches. Fold this end on the bottom of the flower and secure it with white glue. Place a pearl or glitter in the center of the flower, attached with white glue.

Make a Wired Satin Ribbon Rose

  • Cut a 24-inch length of wired satin ribbon with scissors. Make a knot on one end of the wired satin ribbon. Pull the wire on the other end of the ribbon and gather the ribbon slightly.

  • Roll the ribbon tightly around a pencil three or four times to create a tight center for the rose. Leave the knot outside, below the center of the flower. The gathered side of the ribbon will form the bottom of the rose.

  • Remove the pencil and roll the rest of the ribbon around the center to make the rose. Fold the end of the ribbon inside and down so that it's not exposed. Wrap the wire tightly around the knot to secure the flower.

  • Grasp the center of the flower with needle-nose pliers and twist it until it's tight. Flatten the rose and adjust the ribbon with your fingers if necessary. Attach the flower to a surface using crafting glue.
