How to Make Your Own Nylon Diaper Covers
Diaper covers are used for cloth diapers to help prevent leaking from the diaper. While they are available in stores, the cost of the covers can add up when the covers wear out. Nylon covers are an ideal diaper-cover option because the nylon material is easy to clean compared to other options like wool. The nylon material faces the inside near the diaper while the other material on the cover with a print faces outward.

Select a pattern. It is possible to make a pattern based on an old cover by cutting the seams in the old cover as well. Make sure the pattern measurements are appropriate for the baby by measuring the baby's waste at the naval and the crotch from front to back while the baby is wearing a diaper and measure the pattern to match up the measurements. Make adjustments to the pattern for measurements as needed.

Place the pattern over the nylon material, clip it with the paper clips and cut it out. Cut out according to the pattern. Repeat for the print material or cut the print material with the nylon. Leave about half an inch extra for seam allowance when cutting if it cuts in two pieces. Clip the nylon and print material together so the print material is facing out and the nylon is facing in. If the pattern is in two parts, sew the middle seam to make it one part.

Sew the elastic to the inside of the cover along the waist and legs. Start from the curve at the leg and work around the leg. Repeat for the second leg. Sew the waist last. Stretch the elastic while sewing at the curve in the leg opening and the waist.

Fold the nylon and cover material over the elastic about a 1/4 inch for hemming. This will both hem the diaper cover and place the elastic inside the cover. Sew the hem using the sewing machine. Take it slow and avoid catching the elastic in the hem.

Attach the hook and loop or snaps. Sew one side of the hook and loop material or the snaps onto the front side of the cover and attach the other side to the tabs.
