The Mercenary Level of Resident Evil 5 tests players' shooting skills.

Released in 2009, Resident Evil 5 continues the popular Resident Evil series of survival horror video games. The game finds protagonist Chris Redfield in West Africa, teamed with new partner Sheva Alomar. One of the many extra features is the bonus game "The Mercenaries," a familiar challenge for fans of the franchise. The game will automatically supply you with several characters to use, but before you can access all available characters, you must first unlock them.

Instructions

    • 1

Beat each level of Resident Evil 5 once in story mode to access Mercenary Levels.

    • 2

Select the "Mercenary" option that appears at the bottom of the main screen. The Mercenary mode contains eight levels that correspond to the eight levels of the story mode. The levels are as follows: "Public Assembly," "The Mines," "Village," "Ancient Ruins," "Experimental Facility," "Missile Area," "Ship Deck," and "Prison."

    • 3

Select the level and the character to play as, either Chris or Sheva. Players can proceed solo or with a partner in co-op play. Co-op can be either off-line with a split-screen or on-line.

    • 4

Start shooting. Mercenary levels are shooting games, as players attempt to survive swarms of infected attackers and kill as many of them as possible within two minutes. Players can earn time bonuses by accessing orange time markers.

    • 5

Earn an "A" on each level to unlock new characters. A score of 40,000 points in solo play, or 80,000 points in co-op, will unlock characters. Unlockable characters for each level are as follows: "Public Assembly," Jill Valentine in BSAA (Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance) uniform; "The Mines," Albert Wesker in "midnight" outfit; "Village," Chris in safari clothes; "Ancient Ruins," "clubbin'" Sheva in disco outfit; "Experimental Facility," Chris in S.T.A.R.S. (Special Tactics and Rescue Service) uniform; "Missile Area," Sheva in tribal costume; "Ship Deck," Jill in battle suit; and "Prison," Wesker in S.T.A.R.S. uniform.

    • 6

Use unlocked characters on subsequent Mercenary Levels. As characters in Mercenary Mode are limited to specific weapons, experiment with character combinations in co-op play to optimize firepower. In solo play, use the character with maximum firepower

Tips & Warnings

  • Unlock combo bonuses to add points to combo attacks during Mercenary Level play. Combo bonuses are typically in chests throughout the level environment.
