How to Make Black Paint From Scratch thumbnail
Small glass jars are perfect for storing black paint.

Black ink is one of the most simple recipes to create. This is because there are many items that are naturally black that can be used as a dye. Making black paint from scratch is a fun project for kids. Although most paint is labeled as ink, it can be used in the same fashion. This is a messy project because the black can stain, so be careful when creating your black paint.

Instructions

    • 1

Mix the egg yolk, gum arabic, and honey in the small bowl.

    • 2

Mix in the crushed charcoal ash. Stir thoroughly to create a thick paste.

    • 3

Pour the mixture into a jar and screw on the lid tight. Set the jar in the sun or next to a fire where it will be warmed for 2 to 3 days before use. This is to steep the mixture and turn it a true black.

    • 4

Mix equal parts of black paste with water to use. Be sure to take only the amount that you need. Once the paint has been mixed, you cannot put it back in the jar with the rest of the paste.
