Complete at least two missions with Little Jacob. He is a character who has ties to the local crime mafia and is also Nico's accomplice. After completing two missions with him, he will give you a Glock as a reward. The Glock is a special type of hand pistol.

Defeat a character who has a gun or rifle. After doing so you can pick up his weapon for personal use. For instance, you can commit a crime to lure the police to your location and then you can knock down an officer using hand-to-hand combat. Grab his pistol and run away. Save your game at this point and you will retain the gun for future use.

Purchase a gun at the Gun Shop. A character named Dimitri will give you access to this underground weapons store after you complete a few missions and you will always be able to shop for new weapons. There are a variety of guns to choose from and the more powerful ones will be correspondingly expensive. Save your money so you can fully equip yourself.

Call Little Jacob to purchase new guns. After completing a few missions with him you can call him via your cell phone at any time for assistance. He will come to your location in a car and will open the trunk to reveal a cache of guns. You can then purchase any gun you want.
