How to Do Water Aerobics to Lose Love Handles

Save

The term "Love handles" describes the fat that covers the oblique muscles. The love handles are particularly hard to get rid of because people often neglect them during abdominal workouts. The cardiovascular exercise performed through water aerobics can help you to lose weight throughout the entire body. The "sidestroke" and "Mr. Froggie" are water aerobic exercises that train the oblique muscles specifically.

The sidestroke

  • Begin at one end of the pool and push off from the wall. Float on your side so that the lower hip points towards the bottom of the pool. The other hip should point towards the ceiling or sky.

  • Bring the lower arm in towards the body as if you were picking fruit and placing it in a basket. Use the other arm to push the water away and propel the body through the water. Bring the legs all the way in towards the body to contract the oblique muscles.

  • Stretch out with the lower arm to extend the oblique muscles. Use a scissor kick motion to extend the legs and stretch the oblique muscles.

  • Rotate your body to work the other oblique muscle when you get to the other side of the pool. Swim to the end of the pool and back for one repetition. Perform three repetitions.

Mr. Froggie

  • Position yourself in an area of the pool where the water lever is just below the chest near the height of your abdominal muscles.

  • Join the hands in a scoop shape just below the surface of the water. Push the hands up and down under the surface of the water.

  • Stand with the legs wide apart. Bring the knees up through the surface of the water and down to the pool floor.

  • Perform three sets of 25 repetitions.
