How to Make a Fake Rock As Seen on Television by Party Planner

Rocks have long served as a point of interest in garden designs. Unlike real rocks, fake rocks are light, transportable, and customized. Given these advantages, many garden owners choose to augment their landscapes with fake rocks. The prototypical fake rock design has been demonstrated on television by Party Planner, and can be constructed by anyone.

Things You'll Need

• Foam
• Chisel
• Chicken wire
• Industrial strength stapler
• Wheelbarrow
• Concrete
• Sand
• Shovel
• Point trowel
• Sponge

Instructions

1. Build a form for your fake rock by purchasing a large block of foam and chipping it into a desired shape with a chisel.

2. Cover the foam form with chicken wire. Use industrial strength staples to secure the chicken wire to the foam.

3. Mix one part concrete powder with three parts sand in a wheelbarrow. Pour water into the wheelbarrow until the mixture achieves the consistency of thick paste. Use a shovel to stir the mixture until both the concrete and the sand are thoroughly assimilated into the water.

4. Shovel small amounts of concrete onto the foam form with a point trowel. Sculpt it into a desired shape.

5. Texture the concrete with a sponge to emulate the weathered appearance of a rock.

6. Cure the concrete for one month in a shaded, outdoor area. After one month, wash the concrete and spray paint if desired.
