How to Troubleshoot Mobile Phones

Cell phones, like any other electronic device, make your life easier but can experience problems that require troubleshooting. Knowing how to properly troubleshoot your cell phone can mean the difference between dropping money on a brand-new one (when you might not need to) and saving that money by fixing the issue yourself. You can troubleshoot and identify a cell phone issue by following a few steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Charge your phone if you have no power. This is one of the most common cell phone issues you'll face. By allowing your phone's battery to charge back up to capacity, you'll be able to turn your phone back on and resume use.

    • 2

Use a friend's charger if your phone won't charge. You'll want to do this to make sure your charger isn't the problem. If it is, replace it.

    • 3

Purchase a new battery if your old one won't charge. Some batteries just die, and replacing the battery is much less expensive than spending money on a brand-new phone.

    • 4

Step outside if you're experiencing dropped calls. Many cell phones have issues maintaining a connection while indoors because of interference caused by the building. If you still can't keep a call connected, check your signal bar to see how much signal you have. If the bar is low, you're more likely to have dropped phone calls.

    • 5

Take your phone to your carrier's retail location if you're having issues that these troubleshooting steps couldn't solve. If your phone is defective, your carrier will often replace it at no cost.
