Instructions

    • 1

Choose a fabric for your wine sack. You may already have fabric or you can buy some at a fabric store. You will need 8-by-30 inches of the fabric.

    • 2

Measure and cut out an 8-by-30-inch rectangle of your fabric. Fold it in half along the 8-inch side. Pin the open sides of the fabric together, ensuring the sides are even.

    • 3

Drape the fabric carefully over the wine bottle. Use your pencil to indicate where the seam needs to be so the wine bottle will slide in and out of the sack easily.

    • 4

Stitch the seam along the two longer sides of the sack using your sewing machine. Three sides of your fabric should be sewn closed and the shortest side should be open. The right sides should be facing one another while the wrong side should be facing you.

    • 5

Fold the upper edge of the bag down and test it out on your wine bottle again. You're going to be stringing the elastic through that loop, so you'll want to determine how low on the bottle the sack should sit so you can fold down the fabric suitably.

    • 6

Stitch along the top lining of the sack on the bottom edge of the folded fabric. When you're going around the sack, stop stitching just before you reach your starting point. This creates a pocket at the top of the sack.

    • 7

Place your safety pin on one end of the elastic band and use it to thread the elastic through the pocket. Be careful not to lose the other end of the elastic.

    • 8

Sew the two ends of the elastic together.

    • 9

Hand-stitch the little hole you used to run the elastic through.

    • 10

Decorate the sack using ribbons, buttons, lace and sequins.
