How to Change the Oil and Filter in a 2007 Camry
The engineers at Toyota have continued their tradition of making oil changes a hassle-free process for the do-it-your types. They designed the engine so that it requires synthetic oil, however, so you will need to spend a little more money on materials. Additionally, there is a process to turn off the dashboard reminder light, but it is a quick and easy procedure. The oil and filter can be changed in about 30 minutes if you have everything properly planned in advance.
Things You'll Need
- 4 quarts synthetic 5W-20 engine oil
- Oil filter wrench
- Oil filter

Change The Oil And Filter
-
1
Drive the car up onto the tire ramps and engage the parking brake. Make sure the car is on a paved horizontal surface.
-
2
Open the engine oil cap and slide the drain pan under the oil drain plug. Loosen the drain plug with a 14 mm socket, and remove it with a quick, deliberate motion to minimize spillage. Wipe the drain plug with a paper towel and inspect the threads to make sure no dirt or grime gets stuck in them.

Wait for the oil to completely drain, then slide the drain pan under the oil filter. It is right next to the drain plug. Remove the oil filter with a filter wrench, rotating the wrench to the vertical position. Set the filter in the drain pan to drain it.

4
Wipe the seal of the new oil filter with clean engine oil, and twist it on to the oil filter mount finger tight. Tighten it an additional quarter turn with the filter wrench.

5
Reinstall the drain plug. Tighten it finger tight then an additional quarter to half turn with the socket.

Add 4 quarts of synthetic 5W-20 engine oil, using a clean funnel to prevent spillage. Tighten the oil cap, close the hood and carefully drive the car down from the ramps.
