How to Grow Valencia Orange Trees
Valencia orange (Citrus sinensis) is a popular type of orange tree that yields small fruit with very few seeds. Known for their sweet and juicy flesh, Valencia oranges can be used to make juice or you can simply enjoy eating them. Valencia oranges, like all citrus fruit, need a year-round warm climate and cannot tolerate frost. They are primarily grown in California, Texas and Florida. Find a spot to plant your tree where the soil is sandy and well-drained. Do not add organic matter to the soil as orange trees do not need it.

Plant your tree in a spot that receives at least six hours of full sunlight every day. Even a little shade can kill the tree.

Water your tree two or three times per week after you first plant it. Water once a week after a month or two.

Use citrus fertilizer three times per year. Apply fertilizer once in the spring, summer and fall.

Prune away parts of the tree that are dead, damaged by cold or any branches that have grown long enough to interfere with another tree or structure. Prune the branches in the early spring.
