How to Use Melted Fondant Icing

How to Use Melted Fondant Icing thumbnail
Do not serve a bare cake. Pour melted fondant icing over it for an even coating.

Melted fondant is another term for pourable fondant. This covering for cakes and desserts evenly coats the top and sides of a dessert with a thick, sweet frosting that hardens when it dries. Just as chilling hardens the melted fondant, heating thins it for application. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Warm the apricot jam in the microwave for 1 minute or until warm and thin.

    • 2

Use the pastry brush to cover the entire surface of the cake with the thinned jam. This holds the crumbs in place and keeps the cake moisture locked in.

    • 3

Set the cake on a cooling rack.

    • 4

Transfer the prepared melted fondant icing to a measuring cup with a spout.

    • 5

Hold the cup in one hand and a spatula in the other. Place the edge of the spatula near the bottom side of the cake while pouring the melted fondant over the center of the cake. Push the fondant to the sides of the cake to evenly cover the entire top and sides.

    • 6

Let the fondant-covered cake remain on the cooling rack until the fondant dries.
