How to Decorate an Urn
Outdoor urns are made of ceramic or fiberglass and usually hold plants. Decorate your outdoor urns to match the season with special touches that make them stand out. They can be a classy way to pull together the decorations from your yard and windows, because the urns are often on or near the front porch. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Plan the colors and style for your urns based on the decorations around them. If they're indoor, use the colors and style from the room. For seasonal decoration, some options are red and green for the winter holidays, pastels for the spring, bright florals in the summer, and oranges and browns in the fall.

2
Fill the urn about three-quarters full with soil if you're planting live plants. Bury the plants in the soil and add some water if it's a dry season. Stick to one or two types of plants per urn, unless they're quite large. Keeping the decorations in an urn simple make them stand out more than a random crowded bouquet.

3
Add a small figurine or object to match the season and decor. For example, you might put a small gnome figurine under a holiday pine, or a couple of dried gourds in a fall arrangement. Again, keep it simple with one or two objects.
-
4
Tie a ribbon around the lip of the urn. Cut it long enough so you can tie a bow in the front. Silver and gold often tie together the color of the urn with the plants and decorations.
-
5
Eschew plants altogether and fill the urn with wax fruit, colorful balls or an interesting collection. This works better for an indoor urn.
-
6
Check the urns regularly for fallen leaves and keep them clean. Also, water the plants once a week if necessary.
