Instructions

    • 1

Cut a piece of white fabric that is twice the length of your child's body from her shoulder to her ankles. The fabric should be at least as wide as the distance between her shoulders. Fold the fabric in half widthwise, and cut a hole in the center of the fold for your child's head.

    • 2

Cut two wing shapes out of cardboard with a box cutter. The heavy, corrugated kind of cardboard from a shipping box is the best choice. Spray paint the wings with metallic silver paint and let them dry. Poke a hole in the top of each wing near the edge that will be in the middle of your child's back, and another on this same edge at the bottom.

    • 3

Pull the white fabric over your child's body like a tunic or a toga, putting his head through the hole you made in the fabric's fold. Trim the ends of the fabric at this time if it is too long for him.

    • 4

Take a length of silver ribbon or lace that is at least two yards long. Thread it through the top hole in each wing, leaving the tails of the lace or ribbon coming out of the backs of the wing shapes. Bring these tails over your child's shoulders, one on each side, and let them hang down the front of her body. Cross them in front and wrap them behind her waist again, poking them through the bottom holes in the wings from the back to the front. Bring the very ends of the ribbon or lace back around to the front of her waist and tie in a knot or a bow.

    • 5

Perch a silver star garland on the top of your child's head for a halo. If you do not have a star garland, use silver metallic chenille stems bent into a circular shape instead.

Tips & Warnings

  • Instead of using fabric, try using an old sheet, a pillow case or even an extra-long adult's white T-shirt for the main body of this costume.

  • For added embellishment, glue silver ric rac or other trim to the bottom hem of the fabric using a no-sew fabric glue.
