My Sony Stereo System Has a Blown Fuse

Many Sony stereo systems use fuses to control power distribution.

Most Sony stereo systems have built-in fuses. These fuses control the amount of power that is sent out to the different speakers. If the audio level is turned up too high for an extended period of time on the Sony stereo, though, it is possible to blow the fuse. This, thankfully, does not mean the stereo is destroyed. Instead, all you need to do is replace the blown fuse.

Things You'll Need

• User's manual
• Phillips screwdriver

Instructions

1. Look in the user's manual for the Sony stereo system for the type of fuse the equipment uses.

2. Purchase a replacement fuse form either the Sony website or the store you purchased the equipment from. Most retail locations that sell Sony hardware also carry the replacement fuses.

3. Remove the fuse cover, typically located on the back of the Sony system -- the user's manual will state the exact location of the fuses.

4. Locate the blown fuse. There are many different fuses in the Sony stereo. The blown fuse is the one that is either all black or the glass is broken.

5. Remove the blown fuse -- it slides out of its holder. Then insert the replacement fuse. The Sony stereo system should now be able to play back audio.
