How to Unlock the Sprint Samsung Instinct

Smart phones have become popular among cell phone users for their multitasking capabilities, and it is not uncommon for these users to become attached to a specific device. If they make the decision to change carriers, many people like to take their phone with them through a process known as flashing. Here is how to flash, or unlock, Sprint's Samsung Instinct.

  1. Obtain SPC Code

    • 1

      Open your computer's device manager. Look under the "Devices and Printers" heading in Windows 7, or navigate to "Start," "Control Panel," "System Maintenance" and "Device Manager" in Vista. On Windows XP, navigate to "Start," "Control Panel," "System," "System Properties," and select the "Hardware" tab to find the Device Manager button. Click "Ports" after the Device Manager opens, then locate the port through which the Samsung device is connected. Write this down for later.

      Download the demo version of CDMA Workshop from the site listed under Resources. Unzip the file with WinRAR or another program, and install the executable file to your computer. Launch CDMA Workshop. Set the "COM Settings" under AT Mode to the port number you found in the Device Manager. Click "Connect," then click "Read."

      Click the "Security" tab after the phone's information loads. Click "Read" under "SPC Default" and write down the six-digit code it gives you. Change this code to 000000 and click the "Write to Phone" button.

    Configure QPST

      Download QPST Configuration from the link provided in Resources. Unzip the folder and run the executable file located in the folder to install QPST Configuration to your computer. Launch the program.

      Locate your phone in the Ports tab and verify it is connected to the same port you found in the Device Manager. Navigate to the menu at the top of the screen, click "Start Clients," and select "Service Programming." Click "OK" on the prompt that appears. Click "Read from Phone" and add your SPC in the popup box. Change the six-digit codes that appear in the "Service Programming" and "One-Time Subsidy Lock" fields to 000000, if they do not already appear as such.

      Click "Roam," then select the "Browse" button under the Preferred Roaming heading. Select the .prl file that corresponds to the network to which you are flashing the device, and press "OK." Click "Write to Phone" and make sure that the popup box that appears has 000000 as your new SPC. Click "OK" and wait for the status bar to finish loading. Disconnect the phone when it is done updating.

      Make a test call to your new provider's customer service, usually 611 for prepaid companies, to ensure the device has changed providers successfully.
